The City of Cedar Rapids is building a new convention complex. Located in the heart of downtown Cedar Rapids, the complex consists of four interrelated facilities: a new convention center, renovation of the U.S. Cellular Center, renovation of the Convention Complex Hotel and potentially a parking facility. When the complex is opened in spring of 2013, it will become the second largest convention and events complex in the state of Iowa.
The vision for the convention complex project came together through leadership from the City of Cedar Rapids and community input, as well as comprehensive studies, planning and research. The result of that vision is a major redevelopment project that will play a key role in revitalizing downtown Cedar Rapids. The project has received significant financial support from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration and the State of Iowa.
